So how do I profit from betting? With the advent of betting exchanges such as Betfair you can now place a bet on an event not happening. This type a bet is called a "Lay Bet."

Looking back at the dice scenario. You're betting on No.1 coming in and the bookie is betting it doesn't. Your "backing" No.1 and the bookie is "laying" No.1.

So in a six horse race, laying No.1 effectively means the other 5 are racing for you and if any of them win so do you!

I'm not going to lie to you. I can't say this unique way of betting will put a Bentley on the drive or pay for a Manor House in the countryside.
